*In Dwarven lore, an almost unforgivable act that is deeply ingrained in their culture and values might be the desecration or destruction of a sacred artifact or location. Dwarves are often portrayed as a proud and ancient race with a strong connection to their history, traditions, and craftsmanship. Their artifacts, whether they be weapons, heirlooms, or sacred sites, hold immense cultural and spiritual significance.
For outsiders, understanding the gravity of such an act may be challenging because they might not fully appreciate the cultural and symbolic importance that Dwarves attach to their creations and places of significance. The Dwarven tongue, with its rich vocabulary and nuances, would be necessary to convey the depth of the offense and the profound impact it has on the Dwarven people.
Desecrating a sacred forge, shattering a legendary weapon, or defiling a revered dwarven burial site could be considered acts so egregious that only through the Dwarven tongue could the true weight of the transgression be communicated. The language might carry specific terms and expressions that capture the unique emotional and cultural aspects tied to these sacred elements. This way, Dwarves could articulate the depth of their anger, grief, and betrayal to non-Dwarves who might otherwise struggle to grasp the enormity of the offense.
Backstory
Oathbreaker or kinslayer, words that are used to describe the worst of dwarfs. When a dwarf is an oathbreaker of kinslayer, there are very few ways out for him. The most common route is the way of the slayer. To seek death and thus redemption in combat against a particular mighty foe. In order to become a slayer a dwarf has to travel to Karak Kadrin, The Slayers Keep. Here they undergo a ritual in which they sever all ties with the previous life, after that only the slayer remains.
This is the story of Gotrek Starbreaker and how he became a slayer.
When Gotrek came of age he was given to name Starbreaker due to his imposing strength. He was assigned as a guard of the forge of master smit and artisan Grungi Ironheart. Upon entering the guard he swore an oath the never let anything happen to Grungi or his forge. The forge of Grungi was located in the village of Silver peak, under the shadow of the mighty dwarven hold Karak Eight Peaks. When the goblin hordes of warlord Skarsnik started massing in strength in de deep beneath Karak Eight Peaks their raids on the surrounding villages became ever more frequent. While the village of Silver Peak didn’t have high walls or a deep moat to protect is, it had a strong warrior regiment of which Gortrek was part in order to protect it.
The Goblins realising that it wouldn’t be easy to raid Silver Peaks turned to more devious means. After small probing attacks during the day the dwarfs where made to stand guard against an attack at night, one of the goblins favourite tactics. However during the night, goblin sorcerers unleased a magical fog that drifted towards the dwarfs standing watch. The fog caused confusion and hallucinations among the dwarfs. Some dropped to the ground cowering in fear and others dropped their weapons and ran of into the night. However Gotrek was effected the worst, all of a sudden he was surrounded by enemies of the most foul kind. Not hesitating for one moment he struck out with his axe, dropping the nearest foe. He lashed out in all directions against the hordes surrounding him. After a vicious battle Gotrek prevailed against all odds, exhausted he dropped his weapons and sack to his knees. Only then the fog was lifted from his mind and he found himself surrounded by his dead kinsmen. Realizing what had happened he looked around him in despair. The village of Silver Peak was burning, dead dwarfs lay in the streets and the shaven corpse of Grungi Ironheart was nailed to the door of his forge. Unable the bear the shame of what had happened and to face his kinsmen, Gotrek took his axe and fled into the wild.
After several days Gotrek realized what he had to do. He made his way to Slayers Keep where he swore the slayers oath. Now ever on a quest to redeem himself for his transgressions he has a particular hatred for greenskins. His ultimate goal is to kill the goblin warlord Skarsnik, the one who he holds responsible for all that has befallen him.
